HILL COUNTRY GALLERIA, ZILKER THEATRE PRODUCTIONS AND CITY OF BEE CAVE PRESENT: “LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS,” JULY 9 THROUGH AUGUST 14, 2021

Free ticket reservations to the Summer 2021 production to begin in June

BEE CAVE, Texas (April 26, 2021) — Lifestyle and entertainment center Hill Country Galleria, Zilker Theatre Productions and the City of Bee Cave are proud to present the summer 2021 musical production of “Little Shop of Horrors,” running every Thursday through Sunday from July 9 through August 14. As always, admission to the family-friendly shows is free! However, advanced reservations will be required to ensure COVID-safe protocols and social distancing guidelines are met. Reservations will open in June.

Another COVID-19 change: This summer’s production marks the first time in more than 60 years that the Broadway-grade musical series is held in a location other than the Beverly S. Sheffield Zilker Hillside Theater.

“Over the last year, our team and crew have worked tirelessly to ensure another summer doesn’t pass without a Zilker Summer Musical, while keeping the health and safety of our community a top priority,” said Andrew Cannata, Executive Artistic Director of Zilker Theatre Productions. “In the interest of securing a smaller venue to better maintain COVID-safe protocols and to comply with the City of Austin ordinances, we have partnered with Hill Country Galleria and the City of Bee Cave to bring this summer’s production to life. The show must go on, and we are thrilled to continue bringing free theater entertainment to Austin and surrounding communities, just like we have for the last 62 years!”

This year’s production of “Little Shop of Horrors” will take place Thursday through Sunday nights at 8:15 p.m. from July 9 through August 14 at Hill Country Galleria’s Central Plaza great lawn. The lawn will be marked with designated spots to ensure social distancing between parties. Reservation holders are encouraged to arrive early to secure their spot, as well as to shop the eclectic mix of local boutiques and national retailers, and grab dinner from the Galleria’s many restaurants. Onsite eateries include The League Kitchen & Tavern, Vista Brewing, Cafe Blue, FoliePop’s, Tony C’s Pizza, All Star Burger, and more.

About Zilker Theatre Productions’ “Little Shop of Horrors”:

This year, Zilker Theater Productions is proud to present “Little Shop of Horrors,” with music and lyrics by Howard Ashman, and music by Alan Menken. The show is being directed by ZTP alumnus Joey Banks (“All Shook Up”). Longtime ZTP music director Lyn Koenning is returning for this year’s show, as is longtime ZTP sound designer Rodd Simonsen and lighting director Chris Conard. The cast includes many faces that will be familiar to anyone who has seen a Zilker Summer Musical recently, including Coty Ross (“The Little Mermaid”), Scott Shipman (“Beauty and the Beast”, “Annie”, dir. “Shrek the Musical”), and Helena Laing (“Hairspray”). More information on the cast and production team credits can be found at https://zilker.org/summer-2021/.

Show Synopsis:

Meek flower shop assistant Seymour harbors an unrequited love for his coworker, Audrey. The irritable shop owner, Mr. Mushnik — who took Seymour in when he was a young boy — laments that his shop does not attract much business. Seymour obtains a mysterious plant, which he names Audrey II, but - despite Seymour’s best attempts - the plant appears to be dying. When Seymour accidentally discovers that blood makes the plant thrive, he begins feeding it until it grows so big, it becomes a shop sensation. But as Audrey II becomes bigger and bigger, it needs more blood than Seymour alone can provide, leading to more and more mysterious disappearances around Skid Row.

Ticket reservations and additional information will be announced at a later date.
